Artist statement:
The Metamorphosis of the Sun is an installation of paintings exploring the phases of the sun. Moving from the eastern horizon to the west, every day we experience the rise and the fall of our individualized star. This installation commemorates the daily journey in a plethora of ways. The journey of the sun is immortalized from a watercolor ocean sunrise and an acrylic sunset painted on a leaf, to a sunrise painted on acid and a sunset painted on driftwood. Take the journey of the artist with the sun following the warm colors and soft hues and feel the rays of light on your face. You will never think of the metamorphosis of the burning orb in the sky the same.
Timothy Arliss O'Brien is an interdisciplinary artist in music composition, writing, and visual arts. His goal is to connect people to accessible new music that showcases virtuosic abilities without losing touch of authentic emotions. He has premiered music with The Astoria Music Festival, Cascadia Composers, Sound of Late’s 48 hour Composition Competition and ENAensemble’s Serial Opera Project. He also wants to produce writing that connects the reader to themselves in a way that promotes wonder and self realization. He has published several novels (Dear God I’m a Faggot, They), and has written for Look Up Records (Seattle), Our Bible App, and Deep Overstock: The Bookseller’s Journal. He has also combined his passion for poetry with his love of publishing and curates the podcast The Poet Heroic. He also showcases his makeup skills as the phenomenal drag queen Tabitha Acidz.

The spring of 2020 has been a season of "social distancing." Although much of the Pacific Northwest is now slowly returning to a semblance of normalcy through a long, three-phase path, many of us have been adjusting into a new routine and new rhythms of life. Streets and cities are still eerily quiet and vacant. Many activities we used to take for granted have ceased. Many of us have lost our jobs. We have missed out on many of our favorite activities and social occasions. Students have missed out on much of their school lives, especially for the graduating Class of 2020.
This time, however, calls us to be more creative and to see the world in a new, different way. In a sense, we are in a kind of collective metamorphosis. We’re in a chrysalis awaiting to emerge and fly into the sky. The question is: How will we act today so that when we emerge from this, we will be stronger and greater? What can we do today to prepare for the next stage in history? This may also be a time to look inwards and reflect. Not everything has to be active, busy, crowded, and loud. This exhibit marks the first event of the 2020 season for Preslar Art Initiatives. It is also its very first virtual exhibit with a global audience. We are now a gallery (and more!) without walls and borders! |
